Not Just Beer & Cheese

Milwaukee is not just about beer & cheese anymore...

I know what you're thinking; and I too once held that view. Milwaukee a fashion destination?!? That's right kids, slowly but SURELY Milwaukee is becoming one of my favorite destinations for picking up something cute! Although there are various neighborhoods to venture in and out of, two must-visit locales are the Historic Third Ward and Brady Street. Although the locals will tell you that they have been shopping in these spots for years, it is because of the increasing vibrancy of the areas that each shop owner is beginning to carry more high-end desirable merchandise!

Whenever I take some time to visit Milwaukee and Prince Charming's family, there are a few stores which we MUST stumble into... Top of the list: Lela's (www.lelaboutique.com)

Lela's is located within the aforementioned Historic Third Ward District at 312 North Broadway. Emerging as Milwaukee's premiere art and gallery district, the Historic Third Ward is complete with specialty retail, great restaurants, salons and luxury condominiums. Among several of these rehabbed buildings oozing with beautifully styled architecture, Lela's is "fashioned after boutiques in New York's Meatpacking District and Chicago's Wicker Park and blends clothing lines from local designers and big-city showrooms with fashion-forward consignment and vintage apparel. Collections combine flirty femininity with a modern edge." Lela's owners, Carrie Lee Arrouet and Stephanie Laraine Sherman, typically stock all of Trina Turk's line [see left] within Lela's walls before the line even hits Nordstrom! Something must be said for that ingenuity.

Now let's hop on over to Brady Street... Another favorite spot is
Detour Clothing Store (www.detouronline.com) located at 1300 East Brady Street. If you are looking for a new pair of jeans, this is THE place to stop and shop! Additionally, this is the only store in Milwaukee & Chicago to carry the full L.A.M.B line [see right], designed by Miss Gwen Stefani!

Carrying a multitude of brands, Detour has less of a boutique feel and more of a 'chain brand' store. Neither is better than the other, Detour actually has more of a selection! However, if you're looking for the 'shopping experience' I definitely recommend Lela's.

Keep your eye on Milwaukee... rumor is, Chicago-Milwaukee will one day become the MEGA-City. So, let's go get to know our neighbors!
